Programs and Services

Families who have children with developmental disabilities often struggle with questions about the future. Here at Central California Mennonite Residential Services (CCMRS), as we counsel with prospective families, it is not uncommon to hear questions such as these:

What can we do when our child reaches adulthood and wants to live on his/her own?
How can we be sure they are ready, and will adjust to such a large change?
What about us? Will we be able to let go emotionally and entrust the care of our "special child" to someone else?
What will we do as we grow older and caring for our child with developmental disabilities becomes too much for us?

Residents at CCMRS enjoy group activities such as bowling night out!

How We Can Help

The questions above are legitimate, fair questions. Inherent in most, is the family's commitment to providing quality care for their child after they are no longer capable of doing so. These families need the assurance that their child will be cared for with dignity and respect, and will be supported in an enriching environment in which the child may reach his / her full potential.

We believe CCMRS offers just such a living experience. Briefly, we provide support for adults with mild to moderate developmental disabilities. Practically, this means we provide a supported living environment — tailored to each individual's specific needs — in which our residents can live as independently as possible.

Group Activities - Grizzlies Game

Residents at CCMRS enjoy group activities such as attending a Fresno Grizzlies game.

Why Choose CCMRS?

As we hear from the families of our residents we are much encouraged by their words of affirmation.
Why did they choose CCMRS? What makes us unique? We share their words with you . . .

  • We stress community and encourage group activities. We gather together every evening, Sunday through Friday, for a common meal. This provides a setting for social interaction and prevents residents from becoming isolated in their apartments.
  • We have staff members and residents living in the same apartment complex. This community living context provides an opportunity for reciprocal relationships, encourages socializing and teaches skills for independent living.
  • Residents are taught independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning and laundry. This is very helpful as they attempt to live more successfully on their own.
  • We are a faith based organization. Our Christian faith sets the standards for how we live and work together. Ideally, we want our interactions to reflect God's love and care.
  • Residents can always contact a staff person day or night with an emergency cell phone number.
  • Since ours is a community of apartments, residents may choose to share an apartment, or live by themselves.

We invite you to take a closer look, and seriously consider if CCMRS might be the right choice for your family.

Supporting CCMRS

Although CCMRS receives funding from Central Valley Regional Center and collects minimal program fees, additional funds are needed to maintain facilities, achieve goals, and fulfill its mission. For these additional funds CCMRS relies on the prayers and generosity of its faithful supporters.
